At The Underground Collaborative, we understand how important it is to know the impact your support is making to our organisation, and our beneficiaries.
We want to connect consumers more directly to our cause, and show how their conscious choices are helping to change lives.
Empowerment is one of The Underground Collaborative’s key objectives in seeking to improve the lives of those most marginalised. However, we are also passionate about empowering our community and supporters – when we are educated, we too are filled with a deep sense of purpose.
We feel it is equally important you have visibility to the impact you’re making on not only others’ lives, but your lives too.
SO, WHAT’S YOUR IMPACT?
960 cups saved from landfill from our coffee cart operations*
Not only does it help the environment every time you BYO cup, but for each one that comes through Ground+Co, instead of giving a discount to customers (which many cafes offer), we contribute 50c towards bond for someone / a family escaping family and domestic violence.
The amount required for bond is approximately $1k and with $480 in our bond jar to date, we’re nearly half way there!

Domestic and family violence (DFV) is one of the major reasons women and children find themselves homeless, or at-risk.
Research indicates that effective responses for people experiencing DFV include an integrated range of interventions. In particular, secure, stable housing is critical to promote safety and wellbeing, including for children.
Rapid Rehousing is a relatively recent approach to ending homelessness which provides short-term rental assistance and services, with services ending once rental assistance terminates. The goal of this is to help people obtain housing quickly, increase self-sufficiency, and remain housed. That’s why when you bring your reusable cup, instead of giving you a discount, we will contribute that discount to our bond money jar.
This will go towards bond to help with the rapid rehousing for a woman escaping a DFV situation. We’ll be rotating this to also provide bond for young people who are also in need of this.
*Unfortunately since moving to our permanent home at the State Library of WA, we have found it tricky to track the reduction in single-use cups since we now also offer dine-in, but rest assured we are still working on a solution to this!

Since Ground+Co commenced its coffee cart operations from October 2019 – March 2020, we employed three survivors of family and domestic violence; between them, they have gained just over 550 hours’ worth of employment with us.
