Anna* has a pituitary brain tumour, and experiences grand mal epileptic seizures.
Living with epilepsy means often living with recurrent dental injuries, or oral side effects from medication.
Research has shown epileptic seizures to be the most common medical incident in the dental surgery. Stress is often a trigger for seizures.
Anna sleeps in a hidden lane way. She isn’t able to apply for Centrelink, and as such, isn’t able to apply for housing (even though there is a 2 year wait list). She is also on the wait list for the public hospital system, and dental care would cost her around $16,000.
For those that attended St. Patrick’s Community Support Centre Long Table Dinner last year, your support helped fund their Oral Health Clinic – free professional dental care for people like Anna who otherwise wouldn’t be able to access.
Please continue to support the great work those in the sector dedicate themselves to – in not only helping make a better life for those experiencing disadvantage, but who also seek to empower them through their amazing initiatives.
